The White Van man has graduated from firstly a figure of fun to one who's opinions are actively sought, their musings on matters both delicate and probing discussed and commented on in a national newspaper.
The white van man has, indeed, evolved, often into Silver Van Man (more fasion led than the WVM)!
| Most van drivers - male drivers - think their driving is above average and that they are curteous and careful whilst on the road, displaying an occasional 'assertive' manouver.
This may not be too hard to believe when you consider that less than a quarter of all vans are not owned or operated by a private individual.

Less than 5% of white van drivers are women and the largest percentage of WVM are married with the majority of them in their mid 30's and 40's. The impression that many members of the public have is that van drivers do not care if their vehicle is involved in a minor skirmish resulting in a dent or scratched paintwork. However, when you consider the fact that majority of commercial van drivers are not fleet vehicles and in fact over 25% of all van drivers are self employed with the van a major tool of the drivers trade, it could be said that view is way off the mark.
The van driver has a lot to put up with, mostly other motorists using the public highway. With those delivering for a living suffering stress daily whilst having to beat the clock and reach destinations a stones throw on the map but an age on todays congested roads. It is important that should a claim be made, a WVM can simply refer to his insurance policy safely filed away. |
